Random Reads #1

Well, I stumbled across this meme two days ago and I instantly knew that I wanted to participate from now on. Isn't it such a great idea? I constantly buy books and then they're added to my bookcase or shelf and slowly over time get pushed to the back of the queue. So now I can finally pick a few of those books that I own that have been waiting patiently on my shelf to be read. This meme is hosted monthly over @imlovingbooks.com. I've chosen the same method of choosing a book randomly as described on the the main page. So I've sorted my 'to be read' books on Goodreads, then used random.org to randomly choose a book.

So this month my Random Reads is The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran. This hasn't even been on my wishlist for that long. I only downloaded it to my kindle earlier this month and it's kinda perfect that its been chosen. I have to go down to uni this week and it'll take an hour to get there and an hour back so having a book on my kindle is kind of handy. I've read some of her other books and loved them and love ancient Egypt so I'm sure this will a good read!

In ancient Egypt, a forgotten princess must overcome her family’s past and remake history.

The winds of change are blowing through Thebes. A devastating palace fire has killed the Eighteenth Dynasty’s royal family–with the exception of Nefertari, the niece of the reviled former queen, Nefertiti. The girl’s deceased family has been branded as heretical, and no one in Egypt will speak their names. Nefertari is pushed aside, an unimportant princess left to run wild in the palace. But this changes when she is taken under the wing of the Pharaoh’s aunt, then brought to the Temple of Hathor, where she is educated in a manner befitting a future queen.

Soon Nefertari catches the eye of the Crown Prince, and despite her family’s history, they fall in love and wish to marry. Yet all of Egypt opposes this union between the rising star of a new dynasty and the fading star of an old, heretical one. While political adversity sets the country on edge, Nefertari becomes the wife of Ramesses the Great. Destined to be the most powerful Pharaoh in Egypt, he is also the man who must confront the most famous exodus in history.

  6. Hey, thanks so much for joining in. And yes, that's convenient you picked a Kindle book. Sometimes I end up picking books that haven't been on my list as long, which isn't as fun. But hey, at least it won't stay on your list for long! :)

P.S. Also thanks for using my mini series banners, but could you put a link back to my blog beneath your series list? That way other people can see where to get them to use as well. It's all I ask for in exchange for being able to use them for free. Thank you!

  8. Thank you for your sweet comment :) I've enjoyed yours too - I'm just sorry for being a bit lame at commenting. But now I have some more time :D

This is such a great idea! I'm going to do it when I get home to England. I have lots of forgotten books I want to read! I'm going back to England on the 21st May (my year abroad is over, then) and I have lots of books here so I'm going to do BookCrossing, have you heard of that? It's a pretty nice idea :)

    Have a lovely weekend!
