Showcase Sunday #4

Happy Jubilee everyone! :) Did you all see the amazing flotilla today in London? We had a little jubilee party as a family and watched it all on telly but my brother was there in London watching it all on the Thames! It was amazing. We stuffed ourselves with fresh scones with strawberry jam and cream, cucumber sandwiches, fresh strawberries etc and sang along to all of the great British songs. We decorated the house in the Union flag and bunting too. Seeing everybody standing in the rain for hours in London waiting for the Queen just makes me very proud to be British and the show of respect and support for our Queen has been amazing that it makes me fill up! I am very proud of being Welsh but I am also British and very proud of our history and monarchy, so I think today was just a brilliant day!

Anyway, back to business! Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted over @Books, Biscuits and Tea where we all get to show off our all our recent buys and freebies. I've been busy trying to stock up my kindle with a few more books (even though I have plenty!)

Bought (Kindle):
Mass Effect: Revelation - Drew Karpyshyn (Goodreads)
I finished Mass Effect 2 on playstation3 this week and ever since I have wanted to get some science fiction books to read, a genre that I've never really branched out into before. I've had a few good recommendations that I've added to my wishlist but I think I'm still lost in the world of Mass Effect at the moment so checked out if there were any books set on the video game. Turns out there's quite a few but there's a trilogy of books set before the time of Mass Effect 1 so I thought I'd start reading them and managed to buy this book for me to enjoy on the beach whilst on holiday :)

Freebies:
Brood of Bones - A.E Marling (Goodreads)
Circle Spinner and Other Tales - Elizabeth Baxter (Goodreads)
Not that many freebies this week as my kindle is absolutely rammed with a load of good looking free books from amazon. Circle Spinner and Other Tales looks just so good and is the work of Elizabeth Baxter, who I follow on here so please check out her blog here! I'm looking forward to reading this book asap :)

Netgalley:
Beyond the Wall: Exploring George R. R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, From a Game of Thrones to A Dance with Dragons - James Lowder (editor) (Goodreads)
This book is amazing! I've read a few of the essays in this book and they are just brilliant. When I really get into a book/series I love discussing the story and I look for forums with some good ideas and discussions so a book like this is perfect. I'm reading it at the moment and I'm enjoying every bit so I really recommend it to lovers of the series :)

Did you do anything for the Jubilee today?
What did you buy, borrow or receive this week?

  3. Beyond the Wall sounds like a great read! I am almost done with A Feast for Crows now - I have to agree that it's not one of my favourites, but it's still been a good read, and I'm dying to get to book 5! I love background reading and seeing what other people think about, or read into, series that I like, so I might have to track down a copy of this book for myself! Happy reading. :)

  4. Enjoy your books this week! I haven't seen the Mass Effect books, but I know my fiance likes the Assassin's Creed books, both game based.

  6. I'm so glad you had so much fun! :) It must have been a great weekend - I was watching some of it on telly and it was absolutely fantastic! Gutted for the rainy weather, though.

Anyway, great books! They are quite new to me but I hope you'll love them! :)
