Top Ten Favourite YA (Female) Characters ♥

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
I've decided to choose female YA sci-fi/fantasy/dystopian characters just to narrow it down a little!

Avry - Touch of Power by Maria V Snyder

I've only recently read Touch of Power and Scent of Magic and I absolutely loved them. They were amazing fantasy books and I loved Avry, the female protagonist. She was strong, brave, compassionate and her stubborn side made for some amusing scenes with Kerrick (I also loved Kerrick by the end of the book!) See my review of Touch of Power here!

Yelena - Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

I loved Yelena. She was feisty, strong and just an amazing character who had been through hell and had a second chance at life. I also loved her relationship with Valek! See my review of Poison Study here!

Celaena - Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Celaena was such an interesting and fun character to read about. I loved how she was a feisty assassin but also loved reading and wearing fine, exquisite dresses. I know some people found her cocky and arrogant but I loved that about her. I can't wait to see how she develops as a character in the next book. See my review of Throne of Glass here!

Cinder - Cinder by Marissa Meyer

I devoured Cinder by Marissa Meyer and absolutely adored it. Cinder, our female protagonist is a cyborg and lives a pretty downtrodden life. I loved how far Cinder would go to help those she loved and how much she develops throughout the story. Her relationship with Prince Kai was so sweet too. Definitely can't wait to see what happens to Cinder in the next book! See my review of Cinder here!

Hermione - Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling

Hermione is super intelligent, loyal and just amusing to read about. She is bright, gifted and a little bit of a goodie two shoes when we meet her in The Philosopher's Stone. I love how her character changes throughout the books.

Luna - Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling

Luna is like the opposite to Hermione. She is quirky and definitely away with the fairies but I grew to love Luna and her strange ways. She was just so much fun to read about!

Allie - The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

I really enjoyed reading about Allie's transformation from human to vampire and her struggle to hold onto her humanity. I found her journey throughout the book to be both exciting and tragic. I can't wait to see what happens to Allie in the next book! See my review of The Immortal Rules here!

Jarra - Earth Girl by Janet Edwards

Jarra was such an enthusiastic, passionate and intelligent girl just trying to make something of herself in a world that is trying to hold her back. She was so confident and determined that I just loved reading about her. I definitely empathised with her at times. See my review of Earth Girl here!

Waverly - Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan

I really enjoyed Glow despite seeing some mixed reviews about it. The book really shocked me and toyed with my emotions. Waverly was a great female protagonist and her journey through the book was just completely shocking and terrifying. But I loved how determined and strong she was. I can't wait to read the next book to see how she develops as a character after what she has endured.

Katniss - The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I'm talking about Hunger Games, Catching Fire Katniss here not the pathetic, whimpering Katniss from Mockingjay (can you tell I didn't like that book!). Katniss in the first two books came across as a strong, capable and passionate young girl fighting for her survival in an oppressive and destructive world. I really enjoyed reading about her and then Mockingjay happened and I felt that I was reading about a completely different person. But I loved the Katniss who loves nothing more than hunting with Gale in the woods and looking after her sister. See my review of The Hunger Games here!

  2. Oh, Luna is great! Good choice adding her. I think most people go for main characters (I think I pretty much did in my list) but she's definitely one of my favorites from HP as well!

  5. Hermione will always be one of my favourites, I think. I like that she's smart and she doesn't try to hide it. I haven't read Mockingjay yet - I'm not sure I could cope with a whiny Katniss!

  8. So many wonderful female characters. Cinder is on my TTT list today. She is a definite favorite. I love that she isn't all "woe is me" even though her life kind of sucks.

And Hermione!! Seriously, I think we all really identified with her. I know I did.

    Great list!

  9. I can't wait to read Scarlet, Cinder's story is so interesting. I loved how it seems to be moving in a different direction than Cinderella.

Giving some love to Harry Potter characters. Now I'm starting to feel a bit guilty for not mentioning them, but I loved them all! :)

  12. Love this list! :-) Yay for Hermione, and Ally! If I'd been going to 12 instead of 10 Luna would have been on mine too - she's so sweet and fun. :-) And there are some I haven't read yet on your list, will definitely have to give them a try!
