In My Mailbox #1

So I thought I would jump on board the *In My Mailbox* fun wagon and be a part of this weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. It is dedicated to posting about books you've bought, borrowed or recieved, so I thought I'd give it a try!

Bought: Balthazar Jones and the Tower of London Zoo - Julia Stuart (goodreads)

So this is the only book that I have bought this week. I started reading it a few days ago and it is amazingly hilarious, with interesting historical tid-bits jotted here and there. I love history and historical fiction is one of my favourite genre's to read, but this is completely different to other books that I've read before and it is a nice breath of fresh air I must admit. Review to come asap!
Oh, and also isn't the cover of this book amazingly cute?! I think it looks rather dishy sitting on my shelf there with such a brill cover!

Borrowed: The Longman Anthology of Gothic Verse - edited by Caroline Franklin (amazon)

So technically this isn't a book that I just borrowed from the library on a whim for some light reading in my pastime. No such thing. I borrowed it mainly for the purpose that it is an integral part of my english lit module Gothic and the Fantastic and this book is actually edited by our module tutor. I'm really enjoying the module and after looking and studying a few poems in this anthology I am hooked. The poetry I've read so far are dark, eerie, creepy etc, some give you goosebumps and some are so over exaggerated that you can't help stifle some laughter. I'll probably skip through this book throughout the term looking at poetry here and there and I'll pop some poems up if I find them particulary interesting! Anybody who's into all the gothic inspired fiction out right now should definitely check out some of these poems, some centred around vampires, the undead etc.

Recieved: The New Death and Others - James Hutchings (goodreads) The Firelight of Maalda (The Raie'Chaelia #2) - Melissa Douthit (goodreads)

I recieved both of these texts via pdf form as ARC's. I am looking forward to rejoining Chalice and co for the second installment of the Raie'Chaelia series, and although I did find faults in the first book (my review) I did enjoy the story and do want to see whats in store for the characters. The New Death and Others is a book filled with short stories, poetry etc so it will be a different read to what I'm used to but hopefully fun to read. So when I finally get the time (uni texts come first sadly!) to read these books I will post up my reviews for all to see!

So what was in your mailbox this week? Have you read any of the above books? Or does any take your fancy? I'd love to see your IMM's so please post below! :)
